Just listen

To the water that creeps to the sandy beach
A hypnotic rhythm that’ll put one to sleep
To the crashing of the tidal waves
Can ease ones mind as the day is saved
As the hummingbird communicates finding food
A song of serenity clearing away the gloom
Sounds of bees buzzing amongst the flowers
Add the drops hitting the surface during a rain shower
Just listen, to the earth as people are in movement
A continuous gathering of traffic and confusion
Horns from cars, squealing of tires
Sirens of the trucks rushing to the fires
To the sounds of screaming children who laugh and play
To the choir singing at church today
They say silence is golden, but where would we be?
If we were to just listen, and not hear a thing
Not the water that creeps to the beach
Or crashing of tidal waves that speak
Or harmonies of the birds and bees around
Drops of rain no longer make a sound
No people in motion throughout the earth
No echoes of car horns or children’s birth
Muted sirens aren’t on their way
As the choir didn’t sing today
Take a moment and just listen
To the sounds directed to our ears
Appreciate the sounds that some of us aren’t able to hear
